TOP 10 REASONS TO ADOPT A BLACK DOG

Posted in Articles on 30.11.09

Top Ten Reasons To Adopt A Black Dog

1. We cannot clash with your furniture or clothing, and some of you actually worry about that.

2. We cannot clash with any collar you might choose either! Ditto for bandanas. Accessorize us!

3. Ease of vaccuuming! You can quickly spot the areas of most urgent need.

4. Excellent night walk protection, the “bad guy” won’t see us til it’s too late!

5. We hide dirt well (doesn’t mean we don’t need that bath after a messy play, but your guests won’t be able to see it so quickly).

6. We make an excellent “backdrop” for a second, more colorful dog if you choose to have more than one.

7. Availability! We are available now at every shelter you can imagine, in every age bracket, no long waiting lists, no long search!

8. Status symbol potential. Black pearls are the most costly you know….

9. No annoying queries “what kind of dog is that” people are content with “big black dog” and don’t ask!

10. We need you!

This message brought to you by the thousands of big black dogs who will die today because nobody realizes our wonderful potential!

HONEY UPDATE – Wed & Thurs Nov 18 &19

Posted in News on 19.11.09

Our Honey is home and her incsion is a foot long at least, stem to stern. She looks like a skeleton too but is alert and happy and full of beans but not allowed to run & play for a few weeks.
I Got her here yesterday but thought i’d wait a day to update so i could happily tell you she pooped but she hasn’t yet (Is anyone as poop obsessed as me??)
Aside from $500/day for hospitalization, IV’s and surgery @ $2200 on top, as an added bonus she is on gastric vet food for 4 weeks (yes, i know most of you heard me blow a gasket on that one from far & wide) but i’ll give it a shot at least til she poops. Gotta love vet foods, $2.50 a can and $50 bucks per tiny bag.  BUT SHE IS EATING ITand they swear it’ll make her fat (i admit my food does not make them fat)
The fun is she gets to eat it 6 times per day to build up her intestine’s ability to absorb and digest.
She needs leash walking only too what feels like 100 times per day – IF ANYONE IN BROOKLIN OR WHITBY has time to come walk her once each THAT’D BE A REAL HELP TOO. Gives her some extra attention i just don’t have. I have a gril after school and a volunteer once most mornings so late morning or early afternoons is needed pls.
( as an aside - Girly broke her leg (yup, not an easy feat i beleive) and she will be here recovering late today or tmo (now we’re a hospital recovery place it seems) so she needs short leash walks too. )
HONEY DAYS – If anyone would like to meet the dog you’ve been helping and praying for you can see her Sunday this weekend from 9:00-10:30am or 2-3pm. She still needs rest but she will be very happy to be fawned over and petted BUT NO TREATS!! the vet has forbidden me from giving her pizza or Mcdonalds so you can;t either – yes no timbits either!
All is worth it since Honey is really a spectacular dog who has 3 sets of people interested in adopting her in spite of food and mobility limitations and extra costs of future food for a few weeks. They’ll be meeting her next week (after she poops).
On the money front – FIRST THANK YOU TO EVERYONE who called us, the vet, used paypal and sent in chqs. We STILL have a balance on this in excess of $3000 so if anyone can and will do some office fundraising over the next week or so, maybe collecting coffee money or maybe some of your kids could do some bake sale stuff or other fundraising…? Sorry to keep asking as i am fully aware that these dogs are only my responsibility not yours.
We did have one offer of $1000 donation which isn’t coming now so all help, even commitments to weekly or monthly pmts is appreciated. Those $10, 20 and $50 donations add up FAST and actually covered litterally 1/2 the money collected so far. That’s a LOT of people doing the best they can. Even an email campaing to friends, family, coworkers – paypal s available thru the CLD rescue site http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/ON258.html too
WE ARE GETTING OUR CHARITY STATUS – it’s applied for and should be done soon.
Which brings us to xmas – boarding your dogs generates money – all of which i donate to my rescues so when you board it helps rescues. If you’re going away for a weekend or week – we still want to play with your dogs. If you dont’ usually board for an over night or weekend and want to, consider it a donation to help Honey.
I have 3 spots left for short term xmas (ie 2-3 days) and am booking up quickly now for the other spots so please try to plan ahead some as many of you have been long term clients and i don’t want to you to not have a spot.
So, updates will continue on our honey.
Thurs Nov 19
She is happy tho and alert and does her little dance (whick looks very silly with a cone on) when we come down.
Still no Poop but i could’ve missed it. Might’ve been tiny. No worries yet – she could’ve been so starved she is absorbinhg all the food or her bowels are just waking up according to the vet – Thurs is the day I’m sure!

We still need help with Honey’s Vet Bill

Posted in News on 19.11.09

This is Honey

This is Honey

For those who don’t know, Honey is one of our great rescue dogs and she had a bowel obstruction and needed $4000 worth of hospitalization, IV’s & surgery. We have been having a drive to help pay that bill at Guildwood Animal Hospital.

Honey came home yesterday looking like a skeleton with a foot long, stapled incision and has to eat expensive vet food 6 times per day and be on leash restriction too.

She is an amazing dog who was here for weeks nameed Vicki with no applications until i changed her name to Honey – then she had 5 apps in 24 hours and was in surgery in 48!! Don’t know now if Honey is a jinx name or a good one!!

There are a number of ways to donate – Paypal on the rescue site – see Honey’s bio and pics too http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/ON258.html call the vet directly to make a visa orM/C  pmt 416-265-5000 please leave your NAME, credit card number and expiry date on the machine as they are a business and may not alwasy be able to answer the phone), call or visit us to process a visa. M/C or if here, debit card pmt too.

We really appreciate all the help we have gotten so far and know people will step up to help us. WE ARE GETTING CHARITY STATUS SOON!!

ALL OUR PRODUCTS

Posted in News on 06.11.09

Aside from the premixed frozen containers of Love My Dog Raw Diet we have been making and selling FRESH Premixed Raw Diet in 25lb buckets for people to package themselves.  We are the only ones doing this and we do it for pick up on Saturdays. It’s environmentally friendly since the buckets are reuseable as well as you using your own tupperware.

These buckets go for $3.25/lb ($81.25 per bucket + $10 deposit on the first bucket and you return your old, empty bucket for a full new one).

We sell 1lb pkgs of ground or whole chicken necks & backs ($1.25 & $1.00 respectively).

We sell ground, frozen veggies/fruit/fish & suppliments mixture for the Do It Yourself’ers – just add meat for $6.50/lb (don’t forget you’re not going thru a lb per day).

Raw Bones go for $10/bag

Dehydrated liver – the BEST training treats around are $10, $17.00 and $30 for 1/4, 1/2 & 1lb pkgs. This we can send out by express post too.

We sell Ear Solution and Healthy Hips from the Pet Comfort Company.  Both products WORK!

All this as well
